Fantasy point-and-click pixel art adventure coming next year on Steam

In fantasy worlds, magic is both a wonderful and terrible thing. We'll soon get a reminder of both the promise and danger of dabbling in magic in MOD42 Studio's upcoming adventure, Two Realms: Whispers from the Rift.

The story takes place in "a medieval land where magic is rare." It's an unwelcome surprise, then, when a "young commoner from a fishing village" named Tobias stumbles across a "mysterious crystal" that causes his brother to fall dangerously ill. Saving him won't be easy – or entirely natural – as Tobias discovers that "there are dark forces at play, and other people are looking for the crystal as well." If he's to succeed in protecting his loved ones, Tobias must embark on a quest to find "the forbidden knowledge he needs" to stand against his opponents.

Inspired by the likes of Black Mirror, Kathy Rain and The Excavation of Hob's Barrow, Two Realms is a classic-styled point-and-click adventure filled with "puzzles, dialogues, and clever item usage." Players will explore a variety of hand-animated pixel art environments, accompanied by an original soundtrack, overcoming obstacles and interacting with a cast of fully voiced characters along the way. As you progress, you'll begin to unravel a dark, "mature" story with "unexpected twists" that should take anywhere between five to ten hours to complete.

Everything else about Two Realms: Whispers from the Rift remains as mysterious as its central crystal for now, except that the game will be launching on Steam for Windows PC. The two-person indie development team in Prague is aiming for completion sometime in the first quarter of 2026. To follow its progress in the meantime, be sure to check out the developer's website for ongoing updates.

  1. This looks really cozy. Sometimes a pixel art fantasy point 'n click hits the spot like nothing else. (In addition to looking cozy, it also looks very well done. Looking forward!)
