Top adventures of 1990 – 1994

If the 1980s blazed the trail for adventure games to come to prominence, the 1990s were really the genre’s heyday. So many great games came out, and the genre largely ruled the industry, particularly in the first half of the decade.
And so, picking up where they left off in examining the highest-rated games – at least according to MobyGames – Jack and Joshua tackle the next wave of games from 1990 – 1994. The list is a veritable who’s who of beloved classics. It’s dominated, of course, by LucasArts and Sierra, including everything from Monkey Island to Gabriel Knight, Indiana Jones to King’s Quest, Day of the Tentacle to Quest for Glory. But other developers are well-represented, too, such as Under A Killing Moon, Simon the Sorcerer, Beneath a Steel Sky and a host of Legend Entertainment titles, among many more.
The hosts offer their opinions on the rankings and the games themselves, and then finish off with their top five NON-adventure games of the same period. The choices weren’t nearly as plentiful, but still lots of great memories from a memorable half-decade.
The show wasn’t entirely about the past, however, as the guys also raved about all the great new games coming out NOW, and discussed the merits of one developer trying to bridge past and present with a Laura Bow reboot. Good thing or bad? Joshua and Jack have their say!
Next time up: The genre's “Golden Era” continues with the second half of the 90s as the best may in fact be still to come.
