Isometric environmental puzzler from the creators of Maquette coming to PC and consoles in 2027
It stands to reason that if there are infinite universes, chances are that in one of them we'll be called upon to be the Chosen One. Perhaps it might be something like Uncanyon, the upcoming new isometric environmental puzzler from Graceful Decay, creators of 2021's Maquette.
Players assume the role of a young woman named Sonia, who finds herself suddenly caught "within the folds of converging unparallel universes [and] swept into a world not her own." Though she has never been here before and had no prior knowledge of it, this world has nevertheless been expecting Sonia for a long time, an ancient prophecy foretelling of her arrival as "the Finder of Lost Things." And it appears she's arrived just in time, as Uncanyon has begun "unraveling." To save this "once-abundant but now-forgotten world," players must activate scattered "magical fragmentstone devices" and use Sonia's ability to "morph the environment" between dimensions. As you progress, gradually you'll help Sonia "uncover the secrets and greater mysteries of Uncanyon, and her own unlikely destiny as its prophesied hero."
While Maquette was a free-roaming first-person adventure, Uncanyon takes a much different approach, presenting the action from an isometric third-person perspective. You'll explore five distinct "bio-diverse, semi-open regions" in your travels, each "teeming with strange flora, curious fauna ... and brimming with hidden wonders." But while these "fantastical, lush" environs may look inviting, its challenges certainly are not. Here "the land itself never stands still," and its "crumbling temples and overgrown ruins are laced with traps and riddles designed to turn away all but the chosen few."
You'll need to be quick on your feet at times to survive, but your greatest asset will be your wits as you "gather curious records, ancient equipment," and utilize the power of the fragmentstones to "bend the world to your will." Only by "mixing realities" can you succeed in "reshaping the puzzle beneath your feet, banishing lurking dangers, shifting stone and shadow, or unveiling paths that were always there, invisible, waiting in a reality you hadn't yet discovered." Though not necessary to complete, there will even be optional quests that "stretch far beyond the main tale," revealing more of the "forgotten truths of a land that guards its history and secrets closely."
Published by Annapurna Interactive, Uncanyon has no firm target release date yet but is due to launch on Steam and Epic for Windows PC, along with console versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch 2.
