New comedy adventure unveiled by the creator of Not Another Weekend and Mutants Ate My Carrots
If you're old enough to be a fan of 80s comedies, then you'll surely know Weekend at Bernie's, in which poor Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman got stuck propping up a dead body, to many cringe-inducing guffaws. Then a few years later, Bill Murray got trapped in his now-famous time loop on Groundhog Day. What do those two things have to do with each other? The answer is simple: Overtime at Holiday's, the upcoming new comedy adventure game by Animatic Vision, the creator of Not Another Weekend and Mutants Ate My Carrots.
Bill and Jules are a pair of cleaners who land a job at the luxury mansion of Max Holiday. It's the weekend, which is a drag, but the extra pay "makes up for the trouble." At least, so they thought until Max himself is found floating is his pool, dead. What's worse is that "rather than finishing their shift, the pair find themselves trapped in an endless overtime loop." Now the unwitting protagonists must "move the body around a massive mansion while avoiding security and the other guests." Only by "solving quirky puzzles" without getting caught can they avoid blame and hopefully find a way to escape their predicament.
Overtime at Holiday's returns the developer to its retro-styled roots, with colourful pixel art, an original soundtrack, "well-balanced" puzzles and gameplay that follows the "classic point-and-click formula: look at items, pick them up, use them, talk to NPCs, repeat." And as you'd expect of a game that requires hauling a dead guy around a mansion, there will be plenty of "black humour [and] funny situations" to squirm your way out of, as well as "quirky, eccentric characters (most of them filthy rich)" to fool throughout a story that promises "plenty of twists, turns and flips."
It's too soon for a release date just yet, but Overtime at Holiday's will be published by the prolific Dionous Games and is set to launch on Steam sometime in 2027 for Windows, Mac and Linux.
